Churchill Polar Bears 6th November 2021

On this day, I was back exploring in my rental truck. Whilst tours on Rovers or Buggies can give an increased chance of seeing bears, I generally prefer the perspective you can get from being at ground level, and I appreciate time alone in the wilderness.

I generally explore Churchill independently from a rental vehicle, but on this day I took a tour with Great White Bear in a 'Polar Rover' in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area, which is off limits to individuals. Note that I 've intentionally omitted a post for 4th November: wildlife is unpredictable, and although I had a few sightings on this day, I didn't capture any notable photographs. On 5th November, however, I took some of my favourite ever images of bears sparring.

Northern Lights in Churchill 3rd November 2021

Churchill is placed directly under the auroral oval, but Polar Bear Season from mid October to mid November does not often coincide with Northern Lights Season in February and March. On my second night in Churchill though, I was lucky with the weather, and photographed the sky from the centre of town.
